A Report for the Associate Membership of the AIA NW & Pacific Region

Scholarships and Deadlines
1. NCARB’s 6-Month Rule goes into effect July 1st! For interns who have NOT begun a record after this date, the 6-Month Rule goes into effect upon registering with NCARB for IDP. If you already have an IDP record, the 6-Month Rule goes into effect July 1, 2010. For more info: http://www.ncarb.org/idp/SixMonRul.html For all IDP record holders, however, paper verification forms (Form 123), will NO LONGER BE ACCEPTED after July 1st, 2009. 2. As of July 1, 2009, all NCARB ARE candidates will be switching over to ARE version 4.0, if the exams have not been completed and passed by that date. For more information on the new exam format: http://www.ncarb.org/ARE/index.html

3. The next deadline for the IDP Firm Award and IDP Outstanding Firm Awards is July 15, 2009. For more information: http://www.aia.org/idp_outstandingfirm_default

4. The College of Fellows established a scholarship to develop Emerging Professionals and Young Architects in local components. Proposal programs should encompass mentoring, ARE, or IDP initiatives. The maximum scholarship available is $10,000. The College of Fellows Emerging Professionals Component Grants deadline for submissions is August 13, 2009. Licensure News: IDP and ARE
1. NCARB has recently added a “Security and Development Fee” to all ARE sections, starting October 1, 2009. This is due to the security violations from candidates disclosing exam content over the internet in the past few months. For more information: http://www.ncarb.org/newsclips/2009/jun09_2.html. National Associates Committee

Local Emerging Professionals Groups
1. Are there any programs going on in your area regarding the economy and how it affects interns? Please contact Yolanda Santiago Lettieri if you do have a program, or upcoming event with a related topic and send a flyer or a quick summary of the program, so it may be heard nationally.

2. We would like to hear from you! What is your chapter Emerging Professionals Group doing in your local area? Please email Ms. Lettieri regarding any programs you’re interested in sharing with the rest of the region. The National Associates Committee is looking to provide a program at the 2010 AIA Grassroots & Leadership Conference presenting best practices for involvement in the AIA, pro-bono work, and community outreach by Emerging Professionals.
